Trump is like Hitler- Ex-president of Mexico
Fox, who has several times criticized Trump over the Republican presidential frontrunner’s comments about Mexico and its citizens, was speaking to CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
Former President Felipe Calderon tore into U.S. Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump on Saturday, comparing him to Adolf Hitler and blasting him as a racist.
Fellow conservative Mr Trump’s anti-migrant rhetoric is not aimed at all immigrants, but rather “he is talking about migrants that have a different colour than him – and that is frankly racist”, said Mr Calderon, speaking after an event in downtown Mexico City. “Today, he’s going to take that nation (U.S.) back to the old days of conflict, war and everything”, Fox said.
“He reminds me of Hitler”, Fox told Cooper on Friday.
Though commentators have examined the question of whether Trump’s speeches are fascist since past year, the comparisons have cropped up in numerous corners of the media this week.
Trump has angered many Mexicans for his campaign rhetoric denigrating some immigrants as “rapists” who bring crime and drugs to the United States.
Mr Trump was quick to respond to Mr Fox, tweeting: “FMR PRES of Mexico, Vincente Fox horribly used the F word when discussing the wall”.
Fox’s comments come one day after he delivered a scathing response on Trump’s plan to make Mexico pay for a wall between the Mexico-U.S. border.
Fox isn’t the first to suggest Trump’s rhetoric is similar to that of the German dictator. Last week he said in another TV interview that he would “not pay for that f***ing wall” and also called Trump “crazy”, a “false prophet” and an embarrassment to his party.
