Oscars history beckons for Leonardo DiCaprio
Whatever the case may be for watching, it seems as if it will be an interesting night at the 88th Academy Awards, which will take place this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. from the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood and Highland Center.
A congratulatory ceremony filled with lots of controversy? Some called for a boycott of the Oscars after the Academy failed to nominate any actors of color for the second year in a row. He said in an interview with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, “I’m excited, I really am”. Many commentators believe that, if he doesn’t take home an Academy Award with The Revenant, maybe he will never be an Oscar actor.
Still, the question of diversity is on the minds of students watching the show.

All eyes will be on actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who is hoping to get his first Oscar on his fifth nomination for the gritty drama “The Revenant”. This is DiCaprio’s sixth Oscar nomination, and he was previously nominated for The Wolf of Wall Street, Blood Diamond, The Aviator, and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

Going strictly by box office, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” would sweep all categories from Best Picture to having Chewbacca accept the award for Best Supporting Actor.
He said: “I would not be standing up here if it wasn’t for this person”.
The Best Actress race has previous winners Cate Blanchett for “Carol” and Jennifer Lawrence for “Joy” going up against Saiorse Ronan for “Brooklyn“, and first time nominees Charlotte Rampling for “45 years” and Brie Larson for “Room”.
As for the Best Supporting Actor nominees, Sylvester Stallone (“Creed”) is the most favourite by odds, followed by Mark Ruffalo (“Spotlight”) and Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies“).
Luise Rainer, Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, Jason Robards and Tom Hanks have won two Oscars in two consecutive years.
