Oscar rehearsals beckon a parade of dressed-down stars
Dubbed Hollywood’s biggest night, this year’s edition is not short on buzz, centered around the lack of diversity among nominees.
The all-white slate of acting nominees restored the hashtag “OscarsSoWhite” to prominence and led Spike Lee (an honorary Oscar victor this year) and Jada Pinkett Smith to announce that they would not attend the show. Online will host a live stream starting at 5:25 p.m. ET/2:25 p.m. PT.
Viewers can tune in to ABC on their television or live-stream the event on ABC.com.
There will be also a behind the scenes live broadcast available in addition to the main broadcast. The event will start at 1:30 a.m. local time. At the Oscars 2016 there is not a single Black person nominated for an Academy Award.
The #OscarsSoWhite controversy rages on, and host Chris Rock will certainly have something to say about it. The Revenant’s Leonardo DiCaprio could finally get his first Oscar.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences will stream backstage content before, during and after the 2016 Oscars through Facebook Live as reported by Variety.
The biggest indicators of the three-movie race were the major guild ceremonies, where “Revenant” won the Directors Guild of America award, “Spotlight” won the Best Cast award from the Screen Actors Guild and “The Big Short” took the top prize from the Producers Guild Award. He has lost for his previous four nominations.
Brie Larson is up for best actress alongside Saoirse Ronan, Charlotte Rampling, previous winners Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lawrence – the latter has already picked up a Golden Globe for her performance in Joy. It is also interesting to know that Creed star Sylvester Stallone is nominated for his first Academy Award since 1977.
Chris Rock has been given what some see as the ultimate honour in showbusiness – but this year hosting the Oscars is a double-edged sword.
Here’s a breakdown of this year’s Oscar’s by some pretty significant numbers.
This year’s Oscars ceremony will air Sunday, Feb. 28, at 8:30 p.m. on ABC.
