Little media interest as police say religion was not the cause of “execution-style” killings of three young IN men. Investigators have not released a motive for the killings.
“Everybody is shocked and devastated”, said Mahdi Nouk, president of Zaghawa People’s Association of U.S., an organization that celebrates the cultures of Western Sudan and East Chad.
Ahmed Abdelmageed, director of experiential education at Manchester University’s college of pharmacy in Fort Wayne, acknowledged that the deaths were an especially painful blow for Muslims, but warned against assuming it was a hate crime.
“Hopefully, you know, we’ll be able to focus on exactly what the reason was, but as I said before, no reason to believe this was any type of hate crime, or focused because of their religion or their nationality whatsoever, ‘ said Safety Director Rusty York in an interview with ABC 21 Alive”. “We do not believe that is the case at all”, he said. Darfur People’s Association founder and vice president Motasim Adam, who visited with the families Saturday, told The Associated Press on Sunday that Omar and Tairab were Muslim and Mekki was Christian.
Around 5:30 p.m., police responded to E. Lewis Street to an unknown problem.
Hamilton said Thursday that Omar, Mekki and Tairab were not known to be associated with any gang activity but said it was too early to say if their deaths were gang-related.
Police in Fort Wayne, Ind., are investigating the deaths of three young Muslim men last week. At this time, law enforcement officials don’t have any suspects.
A day of remembrance was held at the Islamic Center of Fort Wayne on Saturday for Omar and Tairab, who had immigrated to the USA in the last decade, WANE-TV reported. “We all came here to find like peace and security away from war zones”.
Police Chief Hamilton came to give his condolences and a call to action.
“It’s hard for one person to commit that act by himself”, he said.
The families of Omar and Tairab will meet with police on Tuesday to hear about the ongoing investigation.
