Hillary Clinton Projected To Win South Carolina Primary
Hillary Clinton coasted to a massive victory in the SC primary last night, sealing her status as the Democratic front-runner and lining her up for a potential sweep of southern states on Super Tuesday bolstered by overwhelming support from black voters.
But the New York Times said if Clinton racks up similar proportions of the black vote in the South on Tuesday as she did in SC on Saturday, it would greatly reduce Sanders’s chances to win the Democratic nomination.
Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton arrive on stage at the PBS Democratic presidential debate in Milwaukee, Feb. 11, 2016. Sanders congratulated Clinton but said the campaign was just beginning.
Clinton’s win provided an important boost for her campaign – and a moment to wipe away bitter memories of her loss to Barack Obama in SC eight years ago.
The victory in SC puts Clinton in a strong position ahead of the twelve states (and American Samoa) holding either a primary or caucus on Super Tuesday, when 1,017 delegates are up for grabs.
Like Mrs Clinton, Mr Trump has won three of the four early voting contests.
The media continues to try to lump Trump and Sanders together, but Bernie Sanders is the opposite of Donald Trump. Sen.
Clinton’s SC win is a big role-reversal from her 2008 showing against Obama.
As the results rolled in on Saturday, he was scheduled to hold a rally in the Super Tuesday state of Minnesota.
But we do need to make America whole again.
SC was Mrs Clinton’s third victory in the first four Democratic contests, raising more questions about whether democratic socialist Mr Sanders will be able to expand his support beyond his base of mostly white liberals.
Indeed, as in previous states, Sanders won white voters focused on honesty, as well as those most concerned with a candidate who “cares about people like me”, by vast margins. “Instead of building walls, we need to be breaking barriers”.
“Despite what you hear, we don’t need to make America great again”, Hillary said to raucous applause as she took aim at Trump’s slogan. Democrats looking for a candidate who cares about people like them or one who is honest and trustworthy overwhelmingly supported Sanders in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada. Most of Upstate SC voters identify as Republicans, so Clinton and Sanders spent most of their time campaigning in Columbia and Charleston. Unfortunately for Sanders, he has polling leads in just two states out of the 12 voting on Tuesday, according to RealClearPolitics – Massachusetts and his home state of Vermont.
