Tom Brady, Patriots Agree on New Contract
There’s never been any question as to whether future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady would spend the entirety of his National Football League career with the only National Football League franchise he’s ever known, the New England Patriots.
Tom Brady will sign a contract extension with the New England Patriots that will see the quarterback play well into his 40s, according to reports. That number goes up by $1 million in 2016 and then again in 2017, though it’s unclear what he’ll be paid in the final two years with this extension. His last contract was scheduled to expire at the end of the 2017 season.
The deal with Brady was not officially signed as of Monday morning.
Brady is a four-time Super Bowl champion, a two-time MVP and a three-time Super Bowl MVP. When veterans agree to contract extensions, it often lowers the cap hit in the first year and pushes more money down the road.
He threw for 36 touchdowns last season – his highest tally in the regular season since 2011.
The 2016 season will be Brady’s 17th in the NFL. The second-round draft pick from 2014 hasn’t had a chance to show what he can do due to Brady’s continued form and success, and a trade could now be a possibility.
