Pittsburgh Steelers Cruise Ship Rescues Stranded Refugees
However, the images he took Saturday went viral when the cruise ship he and other Pittsburgh athletes are aboard stopped to help rescue 16 people stranded on a raft in the Gulf of Mexico.
The rescue drew media attention when Harrison posted photos on his Instagram, where he has 327,000 followers.
The ship was sailing a special 2016 Legends of Pittsburgh Cruise which features legends who have put the city on the map.
“We just stopped for this boat with 16 people in the middle of the ocean”, Harrison wrote on Twitter.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Jon-Paul Rios said the migrants would be transported to Cozumel “where Mexican authorities are waiting”.
A Coast Guard spokesman told ABC News that the Coast Guard received a report from Carnival Sensation of the rescue of 16 suspected migrants.
Harrison was not involved in the rescue and merely took photographs.
The cruise started in Miami and was scheduled to make stops in Key West, Florida, and Cozumel, Mexico, before returning to Miami.
Earlier in February, a Disney cruise ship picked up 12 reported migrants.
