Conscript killed, 3 injured in Cairo’s Niger embassy attack
At least one security guard was killed and another two were wounded during the early hours Wednesday in an attack on Niger’s Embassy here, Egypt’s official news agency MENA reported.
Unknown gunmen in a vehicle opened fire at a police force guarding the embassy, wounding two policemen and a civilian.
Among the injured is the embassy’s security guard, another source said.
There has been no claim of responsibility.
Initial investigations have revealed at least 15 bullets were fired at the security personnel. Those wounded in the attack have been transferred to the nearest hospital.
The interior ministry has shut down all the nearby streets and has been searching for the perpetrators.
Security agencies will use surveillance cameras of a bank near the embassy to identify the perpetrators, Youm7 reported.
In April, the militant group claimed responsibility for last year’s bombings outside Egypt’s presidential palace and Foreign Ministry, which killed four police officers.
While the deadliest attacks take place in Sinai, militants have targeted security services and planted bombs in Cairo and other cities, including a bomb that heavily damaged the Italian consulate in the capital earlier this month.
