What Is the Bugatti Chiron’s Actual Top Speed?
Some other somewhat worrying details on the new vehicle include the fact that it will have a drift mode, as reported by Engadget, will be built from a new carbon-fibre chassis (with a floor designed with a honeycomb structure to prevent too much noise entering the luxurious cabin), and that the speakers will be constructed with one-carat diamond membranes. The sprint from 0-124mph is said to take the same 6.5 seconds a Golf GTI will take to reach 62mph, while 0-186mph (300kph) takes 13.6 seconds – 3 seconds less than the old Veyron.
Bugatti claims it has made the best even better, adding that it is the world’s first production sports auto with 1500 horsepower. It uses a redeveloped 8.0-litre, quad-turbo W16 engine to produce 1,479bhp and 1,600Nm of torque from as little as 2,000rpm. Above the threshold, the two larger units come online.
Also rehashed from the Veyron is the seven-speed, dual clutch transmission, which has been modified to handle the extra torque.
Torisional rigidity is on par with LMP1 race cars.
The swooped air vents on the side, elongated fenders, and the square LED lights on the low, wide front face look extreme but well-finished, like a predator that has evolved to combine sheer power with elegant precision.
The Chiron’s carbon-fiber monocque takes four weeks to build. In front of the driver is a combination of digital and analog displays. The speedometer goes to 500 km/h, just in case.
Durheimer says the Chiron will go even faster, and owners who want to explore the very limits of its performance envelope will be able to do so in Bugatti’s factory demonstrator, or in their own vehicle, to which Bugatti will fit a set of ultra-finely balanced wheels and tyres, and a battery of sensors to be monitored by Bugatti technicians during a V-max run.
We are just a few hours away from the Bugatti Chiron’s official reveal and Italian media has managed to find out all the juicy technical specs.
Cars will begin shipping in Fall of this year.
“It is part of human nature to cross boundaries and set new records”, Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. President Wolfgang Dürheimer said in a statement.
While the vestigial fin that runs down the centreline and arcs over the exposed engine at the rear is an obvious stylistic homage to the iconic Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, Anscheidt says the Chiron’s form follows function. For our complete coverage on the event, head to our dedicated hub.
