Three students injured at Butler County high school; Suspect is custody
The district has not disclosed the details of the shooting.
The suspected shooter is a 14-year-old student. The parents of the injured students had been notified, according to WCPO. Authorities have not determined a motive, said Jones.
Local media reported that four people were wounded.
Two of the students were taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. All four are expected to survive.
The school is about 30 miles north of Cincinnati.
The shooting happened at the school Monday morning.
His little sister, Bree Martin, 8, was in the library with her class. “I heard one of the shots, and we were really scared”, she said.
After the shooting, all the schools in the district went into lockdown for about an hour and a helicopter arrived to airlift the injured to hospital. She says she recognized him as a boy who was in a class with her a year ago, though she wasn’t sure of his name. High student opened fire in the cafeteria during lunch.
A suspect, a 14-year-old student, is in custody.
Update 02/29/16 1:25 p.m.: Coordinator of School and Community Relations AJ Huff says all students are accounted for.
She said she never thought she’d ever observe something like that at Madison. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, said Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.
Authorities say at least 4 students are injured after a shooting at a high school in southwestern Ohio.
One suspect is in custody. All other students are safe, they said.
Students at the MJSHS are now dismissing students as quickly as possible for buses.
According to Chief Rodney Muterspaw of Middletown Police, the injuries were the result of a shooting.
“Attorney General Mike DeWine put together a task force on school safety several years ago and their report recommended that we work with ODE to make the plans more uniform and more easy to submit”, Attorney General spokesman Dan Tierney said.
The school dismissed students after receiving the all-clear from police.
