Oscars 2016: Leonardo DiCaprio wins 1st Academy Award; ‘Spotlight’ wins best picture

“Mad Max: Fury Road” is set in a future desert wasteland where gasoline and water are scarce commodities and features Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, Zoe Kravitz, Abbey Lee and Courtney Eaton.
In the biggest award of the night, best picture, Mad Max: Fury Road has blown out to 100/1 long-shot odds, placing it well behind 2/5 favourite The Revenant, Spotlight (10/3), The Big Short (13/2) and Room (40/1).
The huge upset of the evening was in supporting actor, which went to Mark Rylance as a pawn in global intrigue in Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies.
For Pakistan, it was time for celebrations as filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy won the Oscar for Best Documentary-Short Subject for her project based on honour killing titled “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness”.
