Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry calls criticism from National Basketball Association greats ‘annoying’
As only the great ones can, Stephen Curry made it all look so easy once again.
The reigning MVP received an inbounds pass following a free throw, took a couple of dribbles past midcourt before launching a 44-foot shot that banked in at the buzzer.
The crowd rose to its feet, Curry lifted his arms and struck a pose, chuckling his way to the Golden State Warriors bench.
“Oh I’m sure, yeah”, Kerr said, according to Fox Sports. “That really isn’t supposed to happen”, Curry said Thursday night after making 10 three-point shots and scoring 51 points in a 130-114 victory over the Orlando Magic at Orlando, Fla.
Quote: “Are you guys surprised?”
Evan Fournier led the Magic with 20 points, and San Jose native Aaron Gordon added 19 points. “I’m not. It’s just what he does”.
The game was pretty close during the first three quarters as the Warriors led only by an eight-point lead 99-91 going in to the final twelve minutes of regulation time.
That wasn’t his only highlight of the night.
Curry made a shot from beyond the arc with 5:42 left in the first quarter to extend his streak of games with a 3-pointer, breaking the record previously held by Kyle Korver. “I’d be an idiot if I didn’t let him shoot anytime he wants”. “The 3-point shot is like a layup to him. It’s what he does”, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. It just went in.’ Who else would you say that about?
Curry had his own memento from the game, as he got the game ball after setting record for consecutive games with a 3-pointer with 10 of them. I’m OK. It’s the first time I fell hard all season.
“This was Steph’s night”, Magic coach Scott Skiles said. Certainly, but coaches around the league have struggled to deal with a squad that’s different, and better at what it does, than anything they – or even the venerable likes of Robertson – have seen before. When they backed off him to take away the drive, Steph casually sank 10 three-pointers while missing only 5. They remain ahead of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ 72-win pace.
Curry scored 24 in the third quarter. Damian Lillard led the Blazers (30-28) with 23 points and seven assists.
Forward Anthony Davis scored a team-high 30 points, and three teammates scored at least 20 points to power the New Orleans Pelicans to a 123-119 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Kawhi Leonard scored 29 points, including two baskets in a 9-0 run that put the Spurs ahead to stay in the second quarter.
In Boston, Isaiah Thomas had 27 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, and the Celtics beat Milwaukee for its ninth straight home victory.
The Spurs finished with four scoring in double figures, including Tim Duncan, who had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Derrick Favors led the Jazz with 25 and Rodney Hood added 12 in the loss.
