Scotland ‘Meteor’ Fireball Causes Minor Panic And Calls To Police
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We’ve had reports of a very loud bang but we’ve been unable to establish what it is”.
Those who witnessed the lights reported a range of sights and sounds, from simple bright flashes of white and even eerie green light to fireballs and loud bangs.
Residents were startled on Monday night when a bright glowing flash, believed to be a meteor, streaked across the sky in northeast Scotland.
She described the astrological phenomenon, which took place at around 6:45pm, as “absolutely weird”, adding: “The sky lit up”.
FOOTAGE has appeared on social media of what appears to be a meteor exploding in the sky over Scotland.
Reports came in from people in the Highlands, Aberdeenshire and Perth shortly after 7 p.m. GMT, with many suspecting the white light could have been caused by a meteor, STV news reports.
Kim Paterson of Brechin, Angus, tweeted: ‘Proper massive rumble, ground shaking, folk seeing the sky flash blue and sirens going off everywhere…is this the end?!’ Other people said their houses shook.
“There are no thunderstorms being reported anywhere in Scotland this evening, therefore this is not due to a flash of lightning”.
She said: “One told us the sky had been lit up with an object like a fireball”.
The defense ministry wouldn’t comment Tuesday on whether the flash was linked to military activity in the area.
