For activists, the term “Black Lives Matter” is not a call for special treatment. And if blacks allowed ourselves to believe being black in America can depress, confuse and even defeat us, then there’d be more of us in reparative therapy and fewer feeding the conspiracy beast. When you take someone out of the vehicle, that has to be (because) you feel your personal safety is in danger.

If you’ve been following Provocative Perspectives, you’d know that I thought it would be a fantastic idea to eschew The Huffington Post and put everything that I wrote on MY website. This time, All Lives Matter bullies decided to deface a mural memorializing Sandra Bland.

It’s unfortunate to say, but discussing whether or not Bland’s death was by means of suicide or homicide is to miss the significance of this case. Although it looked authentic, we didn’t know if what the video captured was staged or an actual arrest. Below are the narratives and thoughts of five Black women who loudly reject that silence. And this will create specific kinds of risk that an ordinary encounter like that would turn into an immediate effort to coerce, suppress, and punish. At least not as clearly as he did. And to the extent that Derek’s frame helps us think about it, if black lives are made vulnerable by policies that have to do with access to resources, access to jobs, access to education, access to security. And “I’m also sensing it now as a person who is exhausted of seeing these videos of police acting in a way that is opposite of what we’d expect of them”.

“All Lives Matter” has been controversial with Black Lives Matter activists who have long maintained that it is often deployed by people who want avoid addressing the specific state violence that people of color are faced with on a daily basis. It’s because we are not having a much more important conversation about White supremacy, and how Blackness, Black skin, Black people will always be considered threats when whiteness is priveleged.
