Is Airplane Debris Found Near Island From Missing Flight MH370?
The piece, which was found on La Reunion Island this morning, is thought to be a “flaperon”, the part of the wing that controls the roll and bank of an aircraft.
Aviation experts are speculating that wreckage found washed up on a French island in the Indian Ocean could be from missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which disappeared more than a year ago. Initial information indicates that it has been in the water for a long time and has collected sea life. After reviewing the pictures on a news site, Aviation safety expert Xavier Tytelman said the size and shape matches do not match a modern airliner.
Adjutant Christian Retournat, a member of the French Air Force in Reunion, said Wednesday it was “way too soon” to determine if the wreckage was a part of the missing plane, according to CNN.
The Malaysian government eventually declared the loss of Malaysia Airlines flight 370 an accident and all of its passengers and crew presumed dead.
The plane disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.
Photos show police and municipal workers examining the large piece of debris before moving to Roland Garros Airport, local media reported.
Tytelman said we could have a definitive answer about Reunion wreckage within a few days based on a code that can be seen on a piece of the debris.
Boeing said in a statement it remained “committed to supporting the MH370 investigation and the search for the airplane”.
