Rolling Stones to perform in Cuba
The Rolling Stones have extended their Latin American tour to include a stop in Cuba.
The Rolling Stones will perform a free outdoor concert in Havana on March 25, the band’s publicist announced on Tuesday, a milestone event in a country where the communist government once banned the group’s music as an “ideological deviation”. It is promising a set list filled with “classic Stones hits” and “special gems” for the Cuban audience.
The event is being put on by Fundashon Bon Intenschon on behalf of the island of Curaçao. The organization supports charitable projects regarding education, athletics, cultural literacy, healthcare and tourism around the world. The Institute of Cuban Music has also provided support.
The Rolling Stones Concert For Amity will be filmed and produced by award winning production company JA Digital. The Stones concert will nearly certainly be one of the largest since Cuba began easing its limits on some non-official gatherings in the 1990s.
It was recently announced that American DJ group Major Lazer would perform on March 6, making them the first major U.S. act to perform in Cuba since the Cold War embargoes.
The concert in Cuba will be a part of the band’s “America Latina Ole” tour, which is now playing cities like Rio De Janeiro, Bogota, and Mexico City. “The Rolling Stones are going to magically unite generations of Cubans, from people in their 60s to their children and grandchildren”.
