Adele was all teary eyed when she was crowned the queen of British music scene at Brits awards 2016.
Astronaut Tim Peake presented Adele with a Brit Award from space on Wednesday, as the singer swept the board at the annual British music awards rendered sober this year by the death of David Bowie.
After a shaky and out-of-key performance at the Grammys earlier in the month, after which Adele said she cried all day, she closed the show with an accomplished rendition of “When We Were Young”, a song from “25”, having changed into a star-spangled glittery gown before her performance.
Fellow Australian Courtney Barnett was also in the running for a Brit award for best global female solo artist alongside Ariana Grande, Lana Del Ray and Meghan Trainor, but lost to Björk. Alexis Petridis, rock critic for The Guardian, he has accused the Brits to “make the British pop music more boring than it is”. Singer Annie Lennox’s speech was very effusive about a “gracious, risky and legendary” man. Bowie’s pal, the actor Gary Oldman, recalled how the star had written to him confirming a cancer diagnosis – Bowie said the good news was that he had got his cheekbones back. “They’re the ones who put all the effort into us getting to the next level”.
But when Adele got to the label’s Brit Awards after-party she reportedly demanded to leave minutes after she arrived as she was overcome with stress. “We love you and we thank you”.
She did seem a little overwhelmed after the ceremony, telling BANG Showbiz on the night that she felt “worn out emotionally”.
“Life is a journey”, he said.
Lorde made a surprise performance in tribute to David Bowie and performed on-stage with his band. “The legend of his extraordinary sound shall be revered for as long as the Earth shall spin”.
