San Diego Campus Rated Fifth Best Public High School In California

At some of the top schools recognized in the 2016 U.S. News Best High Schools rankings, released today, all graduating students get exposure to college-level work by passing at least one AP or IB exam.
For its rankings, the magazine also considered whether schools were performing better than expected – based on their population of poor students – as well as Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate test-taking and passing rates.
They earned gold medal standings under the U.S. News system, meaning they are among the top 500 high schools in the nation in terms of college readiness.
A Fairfax County high school has once again ranked highly in an annual list of the best US high schools.
It’s important to note that U.S. News and Washington Post rankings are extremely different in how they analyze data and rank schools. LAMP and BTW were the only high schools in the state to be recognized as national Gold Medal Schools.
“A high school education is imperative for success in both college and a career, and a school’s graduation rate is a key indicator of whether students are being effectively prepared for both paths”, said Anita Narayan, managing editor of education at U.S. News.
The School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas took the No. 1 spot in the national rankings for the fifth straight year. Mission San Jose in Fremont was 76th, and KIPP San Jose Collegiate charter was 86th, the only other local schools to break into the top 100. The school is focused around math and science, with participation in Advanced Placement classes at 97 percent.
On the Kansas side of things, Blue Valley North was joined on the top 10 list by the the Blue Valley district’s four other high schools, Olathe Northwest, DeSoto and Mill Valley. High schools that made it through this analysis were then eligible to be ranked nationally, in terms of college readiness.
For the second year in a row, High Technology High School in New Jersey was ranked No. 1 in the nation for STEM.
