Joanie ‘Chyna’ Laurer, Star of WWE, Dies at 45
Former WWE star, Chyna, real name Joanie Laurer, was best known for her vast success as a professional wrestler. After being found unconscious in her Redondo Beach, CA home by a friend, police got the call at around 7:30pm last night.
The cause of death is also under investigation by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s department.
The reason for her death is yet to be known. She used to compete with men wrestlers and won over them in many occasion. She also posed for Playboy, made a few adult films and appeared on the reality show, “The Surreal Life”, in 2005.
TMZ reports that police are investigating Chyna’s death as a possible overdose, mainly because of her history with drugs.
“It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero, the message reads”. The friend had gone to check on Chyna since the wrestler wasn’t answering calls, and when she arrived at her apartment, she found Chyna was not breathing.
During her lifetime, Lauer faced many ups and downs both inside and outside the ring.
“The Ninth Wonder of the World” would soon take the WWE by storm, redefining the term “Diva” with each new wall she broke down. And although her 45 years of life were filled with many hardships and challenges, the star was loved by many and will not be forgotten. She is a strong supporter of the National Animal Rescue charity, which helps domesticated animals find good, loving homes.
After watching a WWF event in 1994, Ms. Laurer began training with the legendary Killer Kowalski ultimately making her professional debut in 1995.
“She was truly a pioneer in our industry, and she will be missed”, tweeted Stephanie McMahon, an owner and executive with WWE who was once a romantic rival. She was a member of the WWE squad that dubbed itself “D-Generation X” and at one point was the women’s champion.
Before holding multiple WWE belts as the “9th Wonder of the World”, she studied Spanish literature at the University of Tampa, worked a number of jobs from waitressing to singing, and joined the Peace Corps in Guatemala.
