Bayern wrap up fourth straight Bundesliga title
Bayern showed no signs of a European hangover after their midweek Champions League exit as Robert Lewandowski fired them to a 2-0 lead after little over half an hour.
Bayern reaped a 2-1 win at Ingolstadt to seal the 26th Bundesliga title while relegation threated Frankfurt upset runner-up Dortmund 1-0 at the 33rd round on Saturday.
Robert Lewandowski scored twice for the Bavarians, before Moritz Hartmann pulled one back from the penalty spot.
Bayern took the lead at Ingolstadt’s Audi-Sport Park when Franck Ribery was fouled by home captain Marvin Matip in the area and Lewandowski drilled home the resulting spot-kick on 15 minutes.
“The fourth title win in a row is testament to the great quality, the sheer will, and the unbelievable consistency of Bayern over the last years”, Loew said.
“I would like to share this fourth title with Heynckes”. It has been an honour [to succeed Jupp Heynckes at the Allianz Arena in 2013]. We achieved something special – four Bundesliga titles in a row!
Having been signed in a big-money move from rivals Dortmund in 2013, Goetze enjoyed only brief spells as a starter under Guardiola, even after being elevated to German hero status following his winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final. With only two matches remaining, including the DFB Pokal Final against Borussia Dortmund, Pep Guardiola would have to tweak his midfield configuration in Alonso’s absence.
Chile midfielder Charles Aranguiz, who has spent most of the season out with an Achilles tendon injury, put Leverkusen ahead in the first half before Andre Hahn struck either side of the break for Gladbach.
Schalke conceded an 89th-minute equaliser in their 1-1 home draw with Augsburg while Hertha slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Darmstadt 98.
“Every single one helped us to win this title”.
Former champions Werder Bremen managed only a goalless draw at Cologne and will now battle it out with Frankfurt on the last matchday to avoid relegation. VfB Stuttgart, Bundesliga champions in 2007, are in 17th on 33 points after their 3-1 loss to Mainz 05.
