According to the Agriculture department, the problem was discovered when Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc. was notified by CRF Frozen Foods that its frozen vegetables used in Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc. products were involved in a recall. Both are found in Trader Joe’s frozen foods section.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-17156” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Two of those people died, though listeria infection was not listed as the cause of death in either case. The infection could become fatal sometimes. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. It can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
The recalled products contain vegetables that are part of the recent CRF Frozen Foods recall.
The CDC says the listeria outbreak that started in September 2013 has sickened people in Washington, Maryland and California. The use by dates on the possibly infected foods are May 2 through May 7.
Trader Joe’s said the products were removed from store shelves and destroyed. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
Trader Joe’s is recalling more food products over possible listeria concerns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected. These include about 358 consumer products sold under 42 brands.
The grocery chain recalled its brand-name vegetable fried rice and its chicken fried rice Monday. All of them have best-by or sell-by dates between April 26, 2016 and April 26, 2018. In addition, Trader Joe’s has recalled its super sweet cut corn with the code 00299633.
