Wake Forest beats Duke 4-3 in ACC tournament play-in game
First North Carolina misses out on the ACC Baseball Tournament on the final day of the regular season and now Duke is out of the tournament before it can reach Pool Play.
The victor of Duke-Wake Forest will advance to the pool play against the top 6 seeds in round-robin format, with the two teams with the best record meeting in the ACC Championship game on Sunday.
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Stuart Fairchild homered and Wake Forest held on to beat Duke 4-3 on Tuesday in an Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament play-in game.
Pool A consists of 1-seed Miami, 4-seed Florida State and 5-seed Florida State.
Miami will open play Wed., May 25 at 3 p.m. against either No. 8 Boston College or No. 9 Georgia Tech.
Miami will face either eighth-seeded Boston College or ninth-seeded Georgia Tech at 3 p.m. Wednesday, fifth-seeded North Carolina State at 7 p.m. Thursday and fourth-seeded Florida State at 3 p.m. Saturday. The fourth spot of the pool will go to either No. 7 Duke (33-21, 14-15) or No. 10 Wake Forest (32-23, 13-17). Pool play runs from Wednesday through Saturday, so every team gets one day off. NC State’s off day is Saturday. The Blue Devils and Deacons will play at 11 a.m., followed by the Eagles and Yellow Jackets at 3 p.m. That start time is actually a break of sorts, because the Wolfpack will be playing night games the next two days.
All games will be televised on Regional Sports Network and also available on ESPN3, although they are subject to blackout.
The ACC baseball tournament championship game will be Sunday, May 29th.
First pitch in that game is scheduled for 11 AM at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
