Ex-Stanford swimmer expected to leave jail 3 months early
The case against the one-time Olympic hopeful has gripped the country, with letters to a judge from Turner’s family and friends drawing outrage from critics who say they are shifting blame from a 20-year-old man who won’t take responsibility for his actions. They said that he was not a member at the time of his crime, but would not be allowing him to reapply for the membership going forward.
In his letter, which was published on Buzzfeed on Thursday, Biden condemned the sexual assault-where Stanford student, Brock Turner, 20, was found on top of an unconscious woman on campus- and a “broken” culture.
USA Swimming, the US national governing body for the sport, said Turner is not a member and would not be eligible in the future, given his conviction, spokesman Scott Leightman said in an email.
USA Swimming prohibits and has zero tolerance for sexual misconduct, Leightman said.
Turner was given a six-month sentence on June 2.

Instead, Persky spared Turner any prison time, directing him instead to spend six months in county jail and three years on probation.
The documents, released by the Superior court of Santa Clara County, include pictures and text messages recovered by investigators from Brock Turner’s phone.
The unnamed woman read her own letter in court explaining the harm Turner caused her. Turner will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Citing courtroom sources, San Jose newspaper The Mercury News reported one juror told the judge: “I can’t be here, I’m so upset”, apparently referring to the Turner sentencing. Inmates who are convicted of sexual assault and other similar cases are often targeted inside prisons.
Turner will only serve three months behind bars, with his expected release date listed as September 2, according to online inmate records.
