NASCAR champ Brad Keselowski returning to Iowa Speedway
Joey Logano won the pole for Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Raceway.(FS1, 11:30 a.m. ET).
For the second straight year, MIS will be a laboratory of sorts as NASCAR tries a new rules package that does seem to make the drivers happy, unlike last season when everything failed.
“We want to give every Dad out there an unforgettable Father’s Day weekend experience and are thrilled to welcome Brad Keselowski back to the track to help us do just that with this special Father’s Day package”, Iowa Speedway president Jimmy Small said in a statement released by the track.
Rochester Hills, Michigan, native Brad Keselowski is going for his first NASCAR Sprint Cup win in his home state this weekend. Prior to last year’s June race at MIS, the driver of the Sprint Cup No. 2 Ford said this is always a “huge race” for him.
Keloorah, celebrating wedding vows and more off the track fun: For the second year running, MIS will provide a post-race music festival with the hopes of appealing to a broader audience out at the track.
Modifying aerodynamic features of cars is an attempt to promote lead changes. The wide track provides cars with plenty of space to spread out, giving us three, four and sometimes even five-wide restarts, with plenty of shuffling going on throughout the pack. “It’s a part of racing that I don’t think gets enough respect, from the participants to the fans”, Elliott said. “It should be interesting to see how the cars handle around each other”. He has a 25-point edge over Kurt Busch. Last week: Kyle Larson won a rain-shortened race at Pocono, finding himself in the lead when the 100-lap event was called after just 53 laps.
But NASCAR altered its schedules this season, putting Iowa’s first Xfinity race of the year on a Cup Series week off. And Keselowski has pulled a U-turn.
Reason: “Biffle has four career wins at the track, which is the most among active drivers”.
