Wayne Rooney excited to work with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United
“He has a widely acclaimed method of working and I want to learn and improve”.
John Terry has backed his former manager to be a success at Manchester United, before then calling him “best manager” he has ever played under.
Mourinho was confirmed as United’s new manager last week – while Guardiola was announced in February – and the Portuguese manager is now preparing for his first season in charge at Old Trafford.
“Nowadays in football nothing surprises you”.
“United have to fight for every title and, when they lose that fight, this is one of the outcomes”. In many ways I think he has done a good job. I was with Guardiola two years in a league where me or he would be champion.
“There was a situation where it looked as if his contract was up at the end of this year and that was it, but from what I’m gathering he’s there for another year”.
The former Netherlands coach was eventually shown the door, despite United’s FA Cup final triumph over Crystal Palace at Wembley last week, and Herrera insists few were surprised.
The Welshman could possibly leave the club this summer in a bid to further his long-term hopes of managing United, having been persistently touted as their next boss by van Gaal.
Herrera is ready for a new era under Mourinho. “It will be my 22nd year at Chelsea so I’m obviously delighted – I’ve been there an awfully long time”.
He said: “The level of the Premier League is going to get better with the players and coaches who will come”.
Concerning reports over the Reds signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the positive comments he has uttered about the Portuguese manager, Mourinho explained: “True friends always praise each other”. He made Chelsea champions in two separate spells.
“I will not take anyone from here”, he added.
There will be new faces in the dugouts at both Manchester clubs for next season.
