Thierry Henry shocked at Vardy’s Arsenal hesitation
Arsenal were expecting a response from Vardy on Monday.
Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour believes Jamie Vardy’s potential transfer to the club is off following a U-turn by the England global.
Firstly we should focus on his position.
“The vast majority of Vardy’s goals came from one-on-ones with goalkeepers”.
“Jamie Vardy owes Leicester nothing”, he wrote in his Mirror column.
Violence broke out after the game inside the Stade Velodrome, too, with Russian supporters appearing to charge at group of their English counterparts, some of whom were filmed jumping over barriers to escape their would be attackers. Arsenal like to build the play up slowly with plenty of passing before finding their chance.
“He had an awesome season, don’t get me wrong, it will go down in history”, said Henry.
Secondly is his age.
Arsenal made a move for the Leicester City striker last week. He had a fantastic campaign last season but there is no guarantee he would be able to replicate such form because as of yet, he has been largely a “one season wonder”.
Thirdly is the money.
Meanwhile former Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson doesn’t believe Vardy would be a good fit for his old club, and questioned Wenger’s pursuit of the Foxes forward.
Lastly is Vardy’s uncertainty if he wants to join Arsenal. “Leicester aren’t going to win the title again”. “Listen. All I can say is if I was playing for Leicester and I had Arsenal coming, I would have gone”, Henry exclaimed to BBC 5 Live Sport.
A three-year contract worth £120,000-a-week was said to have been placed on the table as Arsenal opened talks with the player. “I’ll be braced for more if he nets at the Euros”.
