Audio: Pilot in Texas crash told to turn around, land
A woman who was in her resale shop near where a small plane crashed in Houston, killing three people, says the deadly incident sounded like a bomb.
Weiss said the plane was taken to a secure location in Dallas si investigators can begin trying to determine the cause of the wreck. During two approaches, air traffic controllers warned the pilot that the plane was too high, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
Three people on the plane, which took off from Norman, Oklahoma, were killed Thursday afternoon when it crashed into a auto in a parking lot.
Latson said the initial information indicates the pilot didn’t make any other calls to air traffic controllers after she waved off the third landing attempt.
The crash happened just after 1 p.m.in 6800 block of Telephone Road, about three blocks north of William P. Hobby International Airport.
Conklin says she ran out of her store and saw the plane in the parking lot of a nearby hardware store.
The plane had two people inside, the pilot and one passenger.
The James City County Fire Department said units were sent Saturday morning to the crash site about 100 yards south of the Williamsburg-Jamestown Airport.
“It was scary”, she said. Latson said the rocket motor deployed but the parachute never did and it’s unclear whether the deployment was before or during the crash. As the plane crashed outside the Gateway Ace Hardware, Ann Maryland was at work inside.
The aircraft landed right on top of a parked auto.
The plane is registered in Moore, Oklahoma. Officials with Safe Aviation could not immediately be reached for comment. The flight is said to have departed from Norman, Oklahoma at 10:11 a.m.
