African-American singled out by Trump says no offense
Trump singled Cheadle out at the California rally Friday, touching off a storm of criticism for placing ownership on the man when Trump called him “my African-American”.
None of the protesters found in abundance Thursday in San Jose were visible in Redding, a politically conservative city 150 miles north of the state capital, Sacramento. In March a Trump supporter sucker punched a black protester at a rally.
They ‘walked out and they got accosted by a bunch of thugs, ‘ he said.
In social media posts, Trump characterized the protesters at the rally as “thugs” and “criminals”.
‘I don’t think his protests that were led by his supporters, beating up people who were peacefully protesting against Trump, helped Trump, ‘ she said, ‘and I don’t think that people who are protesting and using physical violence against people supporting Trump are helping anybody’.
The protesters spilled into the nearby streets, with some standing on cars. One protester was seen burning an American flag. Police reported four arrests. Most of the attackers were Hispanic young people, who burned the American flag and raised the flag of Mexico.
Garcia said about 250 officers were on duty for the event. “He needs to come out because we need to be represented….”
Trump’s campaign spokesperson Hope Hicks told CNN that Trump was “just referring to a supporter in the crowd”.
But Trump, speaking in Redding on Friday, made light of the mayor’s concerns. “Are you the greatest?” Trump had said, interrupting his own winding speech to direct his supporters’ attention to a man in the crowd.
Clinton’s criticism of Trump was among her strongest in a growing escalation of war of words between the two candidates ahead of California’s June 7 primary election. Trump called him a “hater,” according to NBC News, and said he thought the judge was a “Mexican” because of his last name. “She has hated him for years”, Trump said. Hicks said Trump was “grateful for this person’s support”. “That’s not what our democracy is about”, Obama said. Tump signed both, Cheadle said.
At a Democratic National Committee event in Miami tonight, Obama warned opponents of Trump not to resort to violence to make their points – implying not-very-subtly that that’s what Republicans do.
Richardson and Jiang are not Trump supporters, but Richardson said she wanted Jiang, who is from China, to attend the rally with her for an “authentic American experience”.
