Man arrested on way to California gay pride parade had guns, explosives
Los Angeles Times is reporting that Santa Monica police there have arrested a man after finding assault rifles, ammunition and possible explosives in his vehicle.
Police in Santa Monica, California arrested a man with guns and explosives in his auto early Sunday morning.
According to authorities, the arrest is “unrelated” to the Orlando gay club shooting on Sunday morning, which left 50 dead and at least 52 injured.
His arrest came as the mass shooting that killed 50 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, was still unfolding.
“Boston Pride extends our sympathies to the victims and families of the tragic Orlando nightclub massacre and we stand in unison with the LGBT community of Orlando to condemn this vicious act”.
The newspaper added that police officers found out that the man was in town to attend the L.A. Pride festival in West Hollywood. Reporters could spot IN license plates and it was covered with insect debris, as if it had been recently driven a great distance cross-country.
The FBI is investigating, along with Santa Monica police. “And, as always everyone should remember, ‘If You See Something, Say Something'”. The gunman has been identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, a USA law enforcement official said.
Speaking on Sunday morning, the mayor of West Hollywood Lauren Meister said the Pride would go ahead but would be on high alert. They said the shooting was a “painful reminder that our community still faces hate and discrimination”.
For a time that is supposed to be of celebration, love, and acceptance, it will also have to be more than ever a time of remembrance, honor, and reflection.
Pride Toronto released a statement Sunday afternoon, saying they are “saddened over the horrific events that took place” at an Orlando nightclub.
Two people died Wednesday in a shooting at UCLA that police said may have been a murder-suicide.
