Horror unfolds for one mother via text during terror attacks
These are some of the texts a mother received from her terrified son as he hid inside a bathroom in a Florida nightclub as a gunman opened fire and moved towards the room. At least 50 people are dead and 53 others are injured, authorities said, making it the worst mass shooting in USA history and the deadliest terror attack on US soil since the events of September 11, 2001.
Mina Justice is among numerous grieving family members of victims fatally wounded during the Pulse nightclub shooting that took place in Orlando, FL on Saturday, June 11.
Mina Justice was outside the club trying to contact her 30-year-old son Eddie Justice, who texted her when the shooting happened and asked her to call police.
“Mommy I love you”, Eddie’s first message read. “In the club they shooting”, Mina said he texted. “He’s coming. I’m gonna die”.
She added: “The next text said: “He has us, and he’s in here with us”. ‘That was the last conversation’.
Eddie had asked his mum to tell the police he was hiding in the bathroom.
After the devastating attack, Mrs Justice said: “I think it’s all of them in the bathroom”.
“Let me no (sic) when u see the police”, she wrote. At about 2am at Pulse nightclub, one of the club patrons, Chris Hansen, thought the popping sound was part of the music.
At 2.39am Mr Jusice texted his mother to call police.
With unmistakable heartbreak on her face, Justice said she’d yet to hear anything further from her son as the sun came up over Orlando. I just said, ‘Please, please, please, I want to make it out.’ And when I did, I saw people shot.
Mina told local TVstation WOFL her son was being held hostage. “It’s just…” she paused and patted hear heart.
Authorities are now investigating the attack on the Florida dance hall as an act of terrorism.
“He [Eddie] said: “He has us and he’s fixin” to kill us.’ That was it”.
The situation required the SWAT team to intervene and take down the gunman.
It was not long after the gunman stormed the gay nightclub, killing 50 and injuring another 53.
“It appears he was organized and well-prepared”, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said at a press conference.
“We are in shock like the whole country”, Mir Seddique said.
