‘Multiple dead’ in Florida nightclub shooting
A gunman shot dead about 50 people and injured 53 others in a crowded gay nightclub in Florida early on Sunday before being killed by police in what USA authorities described as a “domestic terrorism incident”.
Asked whether there was any reason to believe there was a connection to Islamic terrorism, Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent Ron Harper said investigators would be looking into “all angles”. “I don’t want to give a number right now”, Mina said. The shooter died in a gunfight with those officers.
“There are multiple people dead inside”.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said officials are investigating the shooting as an “act of terrorism”, but it was unclear whether it was domestic or global terrorism, or if the shooter was a lone wolf.
It was not immediately clear how many people were wounded in the shooting, or if any of the victims had died.
Police conduct “controlled explosion” outside Orlando nightclub, AFP reports. The nightclub urged patrons in a post on its Facebook page to “get out” and “keep running”.
Police have yet to officially identify the gunman.
Earlier in the day, mass shooting occurred at a nightclub in Florida, wounding at least 42 people. The department also advised people to stay away from area.
Multiple emergency vehicles have reportedly responded.
Pulse Orlando earlier posted on its own Facebook page just after 2 a.m.: “Everyone get out of pulse and keep running”.
Police say there was apparently no personal connection between singer Christina Grimmie and the man who drove 100 miles to shoot the former participant on “The Voice” following an Orlando concert.
