Hamilton is expected to dominate Sunday night’s show, where it is nominated for 16 awards. He thanked the theater community for keeping him going. Corden is a Tony victor himself (in 2012 for One Man, Two Guvnors), and he’s definitely a part of the theater community, which always makes for better hosting.
The longtime film star Jessica Lange won the Tony for best actress in a play for her work in the revival of “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”.
Kristin Chenoweth, who starred in Wicked and won a Tony for You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, wrote: “When will the violence end?”
U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-New York, showed up on the Tony Awards red carpet to express solidarity with the Orlando shooting victims and celebrate Broadway at the same time.
Being a comedian, James Corden is set to firing up the stage for the Tony Awards this year. Miranda himself won two awards on Sunday night, best score and best book of a musical.
The Tonys, Broadway’s biggest night of the year, are scheduled to begin at the Beacon Theatre in NY at 8 p.m. ET. This is also why his latest Carpool Karaoke segment was chock full of Broadway talent.
