Summer reading program at SL Library
“When they go back to school in the fall, it makes it easier for them to pick up and continue learning where they left off”. There are teen programs where attendees receive one drawing ticket.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Piedmont Fayette Hospital will be doing free blood pressure checks inside the library beginning at 9 a.m. Representatives from Walk Georgia and the UGA Extension office will be in the Plaza in front of the library handing out free fitness bands to the first 75 people to show up for the “Sculpt & Tone” class that begins at 9:30 a.m. near the fountain.
July 6, 10 a.m. story time for preschoolers featuring a mystery reader. Adult coloring books have hit an all-time high in popularity, and TPL offers two sessions for those wanting to see what all the hype is about. Both a morning and evening class are available to better suit community needs. Note that June 24 will be an open play morning.
SANTA CRUZ It’s “game on” for young summer readers thanks in part to the Santa Cruz Public Libraries.
Children are encouraged to visit the library each week to update the record of their reading.
“Chester Cowen, who used to work for the Oklahoma Historical Society as a photo archivist, is coming in to teach that class”, Mooney said.

At the Stockdale library, themed events include the Maker Hangout activities Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. and Story Time Monday through Friday at 10:30 a.m., hosted by volunteer readers from the Stockdale area.
“By offering fun, engaging events and encouraging reading and overall learning this summer, we hope to prevent this setback”, said Loveland. Parents who would like their children to participate in this wonderful program may register them until June 4 at any GPLS branch. As participants read through the summer, they can complete appropriate squares on the card, such as “A Book Turned into a Movie”, “A Book by a Local Author”, “A Prize Winner”. This can be accomplished by reading 20 minutes a day, five days a week over the course of the eight week reading club.
Each registered participant has access to an online summer reading account, which lets them track their reading time. With this in mind, McArthur Library has made a decision to offer a Clean Slate to all kids, ages 18 and younger, who sign up for the summer reading program. Newton said a few of those classes are already full, and like Mooney, she encourages patrons to RSVP in order to not only reserve their spots, but to allow the library to properly prepare.
One Crawfordsville family registered several members for the reading program the first day of summer break. But, did you know that a complete separation from activities such as reading and writing could have negative effects on a child’s education?
The Summer Reading Program will soon begin at the Vinton Public Library. The program starts June 1 and runs through August 1.
