Janet Waldo, voice of Judy Jetson and Josie, dies
Janet Waldo, who provided the voice of Judy Jetson on the show “The Jetsons”, has died, ABC News has confirmed.
After bit roles in dozens of films, Waldo’s big break came in radio, via a part on Cecil B. DeMille’s:”Lux Radio Theater”.
Born in Washington in 1920, Janet began her career with an uncredited role in the 1938 film Cocoanut Grove, going on to do steady work in radio, according to Entertainment Weekly. Eventually, she landed the part of the teenage lead on CBS’ long-running radio program Meet Corliss Archer.
Waldo has more than 100 TV and movie credits to her name. She also had recurring roles on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, The Red Skelton Show and People Are Funny. She is survived by two children. She later voiced Judy on the beloved series The Jetsons from 1962 to 1987 and reprised her role in 1990’s Jetsons: The Movie.
Waldo continued to work nearly until the end of her life, notably until 2012 on the evangelical radio show Adventures in Odyssey, and a 1996 episode of King of the Hill.
Waldo also voiced Josie of “Josie and the Pussycats” fame..
Aside from appearing on the future-set cartoon show, Waldo lent her voice to a number of characters including Josie of “Josie and the Pussycats”, Penelope Pitstop of “Wacky Races” and Morticia Addams on “The Addams Family”. She also had numerous guest appearances including Thundarr the Barbarian, The Scooby-Doo Show, and The Smurfs.
