Apple opens Siri to apps from other companies

OS X, although it has gone through multiple iterations, has been around for 15 years, and doesn’t really match the naming conventions of Apple’s other operating systems: iOS, watchOS, tvOS. He started by mentioning Continuity and Auto-Unlock, which now combine to let you seamlessly unlock a desktop or laptop Mac merely by bringing your Apple Watch close to the Mac, using what Federighi described as “time-of-flight networking” to detect the Watch’s proximity.

Apple has re-designed its in-house apps for maps, music and news in an attempt to make them more useful and less complicated.

The firm also announced it would be opening up Siri on its iOS mobile operating system to third-party apps. But shortly after it announced the deal with one of Apple’s biggest rivals, the party was canceled.

Siri can also do a lot more now, like search YouTube. “In terms of Apple Pay, a couple of drawbacks remain, including the inability to make purchases on the web and engage in person-to-person payments but this could change at WWDC”.

“Apple has acquired a variety of companies with expertise in artificial intelligence recently, and among them is VocalIQ, which specializes in conversational voice interactions”, explained Jan Dawson, chief analyst at Jackdaw Research, in a recent blog post.

Apple added messaging support for Slack, WeChat, and WhatsApp. There’s unlikely to be much hardware news this time around.

Apple says users can now use their phone’s fingerprint sensor to pay and check out when they are shopping online using a web browser.

Siri on Mac has a bunch of familiar features, but also new tricks.

That follows a trend in which Microsoft and Google have built similar voice services to their operating systems for computers. The cost is $99 a year for an Apple developer’s account.

The Apple TV has always been able to stream Apple’s live keynotes, and it’s probably the best way to do it since you can have such a big display to watch it on.

Apple had been testing Siri integration since 2012. The annual conference is attended by developers from across the globe, and this year, the conference sees its youngest-ever attendee – a nine-year-old girl.
