Sling TV app comes to Apple TV today
“Incorporating Apple TV innovations like touch with the Siri Remote will enable Sling TV’s new UI to deliver the highly polished experience Apple fans have come to expect”. The leak was fake, but now the news is official and Apple confirmed the app will be available starting today. Sling TV offers two streaming services, which collectively include programming content from Disney/ESPN (single-stream service only), Fox (multi-stream service only), NBC (multi-stream service only), HBO®, AMC, A&E, Turner, Scripps, Viacom, EPIX and Univision.
This morning it was announced that Sling TV will finally be coming to Apple TV devices.
Beyond Apple TV, the Sling TV platform is available on Roku players, Roku TVs, the Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, PCs, Macs, Xbox One, Android and iOS devices, and more. If you have the multi-stream version, you also can watch BET and Nick Jr.
To coincide with the launch, Sling TV is debuting a new user interface (UI) on the Apple TV.
Apple wanted to offer its own pay TV service that would run on its Apple TV set top box.
Sling TV on Apple TV seemed like a match made in heaven, but for whatever reason it didn’t arrive until today. It provides a relatively small bundle of cable channels for $20 a month and lets subscribers buy “packs” of additional channels for $5 each. Additionally, the new UI includes enhanced content discovery, improved navigation and the ability to easily access content based on genres.
During the announcement Apple also took the moment to announce multiple key changes to the tvOS and Apple TV. The company announced Monday that 12 channels from Viacom, including Comedy Central, BET, Spike, MTV, and Nick Jr., are coming to both its single-stream service and multistream beta, while content from FXX, Nat Geo WILD, and FS2 are coming to the multistream core service. The channels are available across Sling TV’s beta multi-stream and single-stream services. Making it one of the most complete TV streaming service available today.
