Apple will finally let you delete those annoying built-in apps
Here’s the big news: Apple is finally opening Siri up to developers.
Maps. An important but task-driven app that drew ire and prompted an executive apology at launch, Apple’s Maps has steadily improved while its integration into iOS has given it an inevitable lead in popularity. Amazon’s assistant, Alexa, is enjoying a surge in popularity, partly because it works well with a variety of other applications.
These and many other developers weren’t content with what Apple were serving and created their own platforms to better satisfy the needs of their audience and continued to listen to them, rapidly iterating and pushing regular updates as the needs of the user evolved.
The mandatory requirement for apps to enable ATS shifts the status quo. Now, users might ask Siri to open a competitor like Spotify. Apps like WeChat, WhatsApp and Viber are now all compatible with Siri, making the program’s hand-free feature a lot more convenient while driving. You’ll be able to look up directions, call an Uber, make a payment, or order food, all within iMessage. See?
Apple’s Ai improvements aren’t restricted to Siri. This is good news for Apple users – they’ll be able to connect Siri to other apps that they use, as well as the ability to use Siri on computer apps as well. Tap the highlighted words and emojis show up in their place. Both are expected in a few months. And apparently, you’ll also be privy to “more powerful user permissions” if you use an Apple device as a a Home Hub, though the Cupertino-based company has yet to unveil what those are. They not only brought new operating systems but expanded the power of Siri also. Sometimes my iPhone doesn’t recognize my “Hey Siri” calls – and it’s not a microphone problem, it’s a software one. It will also have National Basketball Association 2K and Fox Sports Go.
As Apple notes, its existing file systems are decades old and were made for the era of floppy disks and spinning hard drives rather than today’s much larger capacity solid-state drives.
iMessage. The embedding of chatbots within Skype and Facebook Messenger posed a challenge to Apple, which has always centralized access to software within its App Store for a consistent experience. This year, it’s adding two similar features to Google Maps, calendar and local business information. Apple says it will soon expand the service to Switzerland, France and Hong Kong. The upgraded software also brings additional ways to maximize memory space on user’s Mac.
