Why such vehemence among Republican leaders in their condemnations of Donald Trump for questioning the objectivity of a federal judge based on his “Mexican heritage”? Meantime in the latest poll on the subject, 65 percent of Republicans do not believe Trump’s remarks about the judge were racist.
Donald Trump, the presumptive nominee, responded Monday to the Orlando terror attack that left 49 clubgoers and the shooter dead by reiterating his support for a ban on the immigration of Muslims and calling for an expansion to encompass “areas of the world where there’s a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies”.
Some – the #NeverTrump crowd that includes Sens. Lindsey Graham, Jeff Flake and Mark Kirk have done. It’s no surprise where they stand on Trump, and they consistently blast away at the billionaire. That’s a hazard of being a Republican this year, as the party struggles to figure out what to do with its controversial presumptive presidential nominee.

Trump also suggested that American Muslims were not cooperating with law enforcement to combat radicalism: “They have to work with us”. It still carries numerous ideological convictions I share. “I just don’t know what he was talking about, I frankly don’t know what you’re talking about”. But it doesn’t stop lawmakers from trying. Good, they say. The media is finally being punished for all their slanted coverage over the years!
It all starts with his campaign slogan, the nifty one he branded and embroidered on thousands and thousands of caps: Make America Great Again. “Did he actually say that?”
He further criticized Trump during his annual conservative summit in Park City, Utah, saying that seeing the Republican Party torn apart “is breaking my heart”.
One of those names was White, who has spoken out in support of Trump after he announced his candidacy for president.
In an email to supporters Saturday, he said, “I thank you for everything you’ve shared with me and all the support you’ve given our campaign”.
Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, in a BloombergPolitics podcast released Friday, said the likely GOP nominee would need to choose an experienced running mate and should change course on his rhetoric on ethnic groups. “And if they’re not tough and smart, I’m going to win, but a lot of other people won’t”.
And then there’s Corker, who bottled up last week after hitting Trump for his comments about Curiel, but eventually came out vociferously against Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims Tuesday. Republicans have clung to the hope that Trump might find unsuspected resources of leadership; lacking that, to the hope that he might be coopted; and lacking that, to the hope of laying low and avoiding the Trump taint. If Trump were to become president, many of his ideas would have the strong backing of the Republicans.
Donald Trump can be an effective president, and he’s going to win with you or without you, Republican Chairman Reince Priebus told several hundred of the party’s top donors and strategists Saturday.
The campaign accused that the Washington Post is being used by the owners of Amazon as their political lobbyist so that they don’t have to pay taxes and don’t get sued for monopolistic tendencies that have led to the destruction of department stores and the retail industry.
Just because you have to walk past reporters to get places in the Capitol doesn’t mean you have to answer their questions.
But the best way is simply to move quickly. So money is a component of an election and in a national race – it’s important.
