UEFA Euro 2016: Joachim Low apologises for adrenaline rush incident
Midway through the match at Stade Pierre Mauroy, with his team impressing on the pitch, Low was caught on camera readjusting himself, before moving a hand around the back and subtly sniffing his fingers.
But it was Low’s antics on the touchline that dominated the post-match reaction, with the 56-year-old widely ridiculed on social media after twice being caught putting his hands down his pants. “It happened and I am sorry”, Low said.
The Germany boss appeared to put his hand down his trousers, touch his manlys, cradle the scent in his hand, and then smell it.
In the pre-match press conference for the Poland game, Loew expressed his regret at being caught on camera and blamed the incident on a rush of adrenaline and concentration as written in the Guardian. “I think 80 per cent of you, and also me, sometimes scratch their balls”.
Apart from the disappointing acts of violence and the football, one of the biggest stories from Euro 2016 has been #ScratchAndSniffGate. “I will try to behave differently in the future”.
The world champions play Poland in Group C on Thursday and also take on Northern Ireland on Tuesday in the final group game.
