Royals and Orioles empty benches after Ventura hits Machado
After going 2-for-5, Kim is now hitting.
So when the inevitable occurred, the Orioles young infielder charged the mound with his fists clenched.
Both players were ejected from the game and will most likely receive hefty fines, if not suspensions.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he thought Ventura’s actions were deliberate.
My take on this is simple: I can be a fan of Ventura, and the KC Royals, and still admit Ventura was in the wrong. “Why would I not want him to do that?”
Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon and first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who often gets hit with pitches, said they approved of Machado charging the mound after being hit. He then yelled something at Ventura, he dropped his glove and hat and squared up waiting for Machado. The six-game losing skid is a season high, but there will be plenty to focus on if anything like Tuesday’s brawl happens again, as there’s no question the Orioles felt Ventura threw at Machado. You could ruin somebody’s career, so you don’t think in that situation, you just react to it, and it happened. “You make a mistake, those guys are going to jump on it”.
Two nights ago, Manny Machado was hit by a 99-mph fastball from Yordano Ventura, who he had been jawing at in the second inning.
Ventura insisted the errant throw was unintentional and implied that Machado has a reputation as a hot head.
In the first at-bat after Machado and Ventura were tossed, Baltimore cleanup hitter Mark Trumbo crushed a 3-1 sinker from Royals reliever Chien-Ming Wang over the center-field fence. “You’ve just got to continue to come out ready to play every single day”.
Ventura had been wildly pitching all night, and the score reflected that.
Yordano Ventura is no stranger to getting into confrontations with hitters, and Adam Jones believes he knows the reason.
As to the reaction, Ventura said: “I was surprised kind of”. Trumbo drove in four runs and extended his major-league lead with his 20th home run.
Rangers 4, Astros 3: Ian Desmond hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning, and Texas is 8-0 this year against its rivals.
The brawl went down during the Royals’ and Orioles’ game on June 7 during the fifth inning. This was the only victory in that stretch in which the Orioles never trailed.
The Royals were 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position on the night.
“And we went to the World Series”.
Duffy lasted 6 1/3 innings, gave up five hits and threw 80 pitches. Third baseman Ryan Flaherty’s first home run of the season, which landed on Eutaw Street, made it 5-0 after two innings. Duffy told the Associated Press Tuesday, that his left leg, “was a little tender but nothing to write home about”.
Yost also said Alex Gordon (fractured right wrist) has been shagging balls and began his throwing program Monday, but there’s no date for his return yet.
Davies (4-3) allowed two hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out five.
