Warren threw her support behind Clinton Thursday night, following President Barack Obama. Sanders, who continues to campaign for the Democratic nomination, became a proxy of sorts for the effort to draft Warren.
She also pointed to hundreds of new state-level abortion restrictions imposed by Republican-led legislatures and the fact that 11 states have defunded Planned Parenthood in the past year, cutting some women off from their only health care access.
“That’s someone who doesn’t hold women in high regard, because if he did, he would trust women to make the right decisions” for their bodies, she said.
The talks came a day after the MA senator endorsed Clinton.
Presidential nominees are often motivated in their choice of running mate by finding someone who can paper over their own liabilities with a particular constituency.
