Twitter backlash after Zara Holland loses Miss GB title
They said that Deone Robertson, who holds the Miss North Lanarkshire title, would be crowned Miss Great Britain after coming first runner-up in the pageant.
The Miss Great Britain organisation said the move was taken with “deep regret”.
“The feedback we have received from pageant insiders and members of the general public is such that we can not promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward”.
Following her actions with Alex, Zara admitted on camera: “I’m really disappointed”.
A rep for the show tells us: “We do not comment on the participants’ medical histories but we have a dedicated medical team on site and all participants undergo a medical assessment before entering the show”.
And in that vacuum the jokes people had previously made about Holland dropping the “Miss GB” title into conversation turned decidedly nasty. “That said, we feel we have no choice but to make this decision under current circumstances”. Zara had been given a choice between Alex and James Khan upon their arrival at the Island as to who she wanted to take on a date. Not because she’s now Miss Great Britain, but because – according to the Guardian – she had sex on national TV last Wednesday.
The premise and goal of Love Island is for the contestants to find romance, and the show has been performing well in the ratings.
A statement on Zara’s official Twitter page said: “Thanks to everyone supporting Zara @Official_MissGB make their own minds up but I personally (not Zara) think it’s a big mistake #loveisland“. Before she went into the show, she will have had meetings with the Miss Great Britain team and about what could and couldn’t happen.
Hopefully there will be enough of an outcry for Zara to get her title back, as no doubt she will be gutted when she realises the harsh consequences of her actions on the reality show. Add a night-cam into the mix, some well thought out editing to show a busy Zara under the sheets emerging licking her lips, and come Thursday, she’d been de-throned.
From what I can gather, a now airing ITV series called Love Island pairs singles up into couples at a tropical villa somewhere, and then viewers get to vote to eliminate the couples they like least. That every appearance she makes as Miss Great Britain is an advertisement for the Miss Great Britain organization is not included in their reasoning, but is included in the understanding of the way the world works. “Zara is not going to be erased from our history, she will always be one of our winners, but her reign has been cut short at this time and we will be standing by our decision”.
