Ryan on Trump: ‘You can’t make this up sometimes’
Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee also did not unequivocally condemn Trump’s ban, instead saying that he was “discouraged” by Trump’s comments and the “direction of the campaign”.
Trump’s actual beliefs can no longer be ignored or wished away: In the midst of a crisis moment – the type of general election crisis moment that tends to reveal what presidential candidates are really made of – Trump explicitly confirmed his full intention to carry out a program that these Republicans profess to find deeply alarming. In 2000, he went through some of the motions of trying to secure the Reform party nomination (its candidate would receive federal matching funds thanks to Ross Perot’s performance in 1996), using Pat Buchanan’s entry into the party as his excuse.
Trump has revoked the media credentials from many other news outlets, including Politico, BuzzFeed, the Huffington Post, the National Review, Univision and Daily Beast. When he dropped out of the race, he blamed Buchanan and the kind of people he was attracting to the Reform party.
The uneasiness is exacerbated by the fact that many Republicans have only just finished distancing themselves from the racist remarks Mr Trump had made about the judge overseeing a case against Trump University. These strategists note how the Clinton campaign is taking Trump seriously from day one, something most of his primary opponents did not. One week ago Kirk announced he would not support Trump, after Trump’s comments about Curiel rocked the Capitol.
“‘We don’t have a nominee” Sen Alexander says in response to question on Trump. In Ohio, according to a well-placed GOP source, Trump fell from a statistical dead heat with Hillary Clinton to minus 10 points. In a speech to union members in Pittsburgh Tuesday, Clinton said that comments by Trump following the Orlando massacre “is way beyond anything that should be said by anyone running for president of the United States”.
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton outlined dramatically different proposals for combating terrorism and gun violence following the deadly Orlando nightclub attacks, with the presumptive Republican nominee vowing to suspend immigration from countries with a history of terrorism and the Democratic candidate warning against demonizing Muslims.
Ryan, the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, was peppered with questions about Trump’s proposal at his weekly news conference. “I don’t have a plan to do that”, Ryan said.
“You can’t make this up sometimes”.
“I think he’s going to have a strong campaign, and I think we’re going to see more and more people move toward him”, Sessions said.
And Sen. Mark Kirk, an Illinois Republican facing a tough re-election bid, said he had not heard Trump’s speech Monday in response to the Orlando shootings.
“You know, the endorsement thing, I’ve gotten – by the way, I’ve gotten tremendous endorsements, but if I don’t get them that’s OK”, the presumptive nominee continued. I think I’m going to be forced to’. Trump said that for refugees, “assimilation has not been exactly a positive factor”. It was no accident that McConnell last week said publicly he preferred Trump stick to a script because it is clear he isn’t well prepared on the issues.
