Miller: ‘No chance’ I play for Broncos under franchise tag
Miller skipped the entirety of the Broncos’ offseason program in protest of receiving the tag.
If the sides can’t agree on a long-term extension by July 15, Miller would have to play this season on the franchise tag of $14.129 million – or he could choose to sit out the season altogether.
Miller, 27, was designated as the Broncos’ franchise player in March.
Denver linebacker Von Miller, the Most Valuable Player in the Broncos’ Super Bowl 50 triumph last February, insisted Thursday that he will not play next season without a new contract. That tag would cost another team a first and third round pick for Miller, but it would open the door for a team to try and work out a deal. Hence, he seeks to find ways to not be at a disadvantage in the ongoing negotiations. But playing on a one-year deal could also prove hazardous to Miller should he get hurt.
Before this week, many National Football League and Denver Broncos fans were confused as to why Von Miller chose to turn down the massive $114.5 million offer ($39.8 guaranteed). After watching the The Eagles defensive linemen ” Fletcher Cox” score a 6 year deal, earning a big pay day, Von Miller as if he should earn the same. Receiver Demaryius Thomas’ deal didn’t get done until a few hours before the deadline a year ago.
On one hand, it makes ideal sense that Miller wouldn’t want to play under the franchise tag. Some observers say though that this is simply the usual bargaining procedure done in June.
With just a month remaining before the deadline to reach an agreement, this has the makings of a stressful situation for both parties.
Handler joked on her new Netflix show that Miller has bad vision when she tried on his glasses, then asked if he uses them to read his contract.
