With new hip, Jerry Jones enjoys training camp
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, executive vice president Stephen Jones, and head coach Jason Garrett officially kicked off training camp with the annual state of the team address on Wednesday.
“We won’t be negotiating with him while he’s not here”, COO Stephen Jones said at Wednesday camp-opening press conference.
“We really don’t believe that you build on something from the previous year, ” Garrett said.
Mincey, 31, started every game and recorded eight sacks (including playoffs) last season for the Cowboys, who signed him to a two-year contract after a bumpy 2013 season in which he was cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars, then ended up in the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones answers a question during the… You have to start over play after play, series after series, certainly game after game. Gregory is seen as a probable starter as the season goes on so if the Cowboys stick to a number for Mincey; that should not be too much of a surprise. They don’t live on what they’ve done in the past, good better or different.
“Those guys” include third-year back Joseph Randle and veteran free-agent pickup Darren McFadden, along with former North Texas star Lance Dunbar. It’s a grind. You have to be relentless in building the kind of team you want to be a part of, and that’s something we take very seriously.
NOTES: Garrett said McClain won’t be ready to practice when camp opens after right knee surgery during the offseason…. To have him here from day one is a big part of what was pushing us as well.
Cowboys DE Jeremy Mincey skipped the team’s flight to training camp as he aims for a new contract.
