Hip-hop artist Attrell Cordes, half of duo PM Dawn, dies
TMZ reports that he passed away today (06-17-16) at his NJ home from kidney disease.
The duo had a number one hit on the U.S. singles charts in 1991 with set Adrift on Memory Bliss, and also found success with songs such as Looking Through Patient Eyes and I’d Die Without You, the latter of which was featured in Eddie Murphy’s 1992 comedy Boomerang.
A representative for Cordes, who suffered from complications of diabetes, confirmed his death in an unnamed New Jersey hospital to the magazine.
Attrell and brother Jarrett “DJ Minutemix” Cordes formed P.M. Dawn in 1988. They’re best known for their #1 hit “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss”.

Attrell is survived by his wife Mary and three children.
Another song, the 1992 “I’d Die Without You”, reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

At that time, singing on rap records was anathema, and P.M. Dawn famously got into an altercation with hardcore rapper KRS-One of Boogie Down Productions in 1993.
