76ers meet face-to-face with Ben Simmons
Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram remain locked in as consensus top two selections, but beyond that, there’s plenty of room for chaos.
Simmons, and his agent Rich Paul, met with all of the key representatives from the 76ers for dinner before Game 6 of The Finals. According to Ford, Simmons’ camp turned over his medical records to Philly as well.
In a draft many consider to have a significant dropoff after the second pick, the Lakers will be happy to “settle” for whomever the Sixers pass. One of the latest to do so is Yahoo Sports, more specifically, The Vertical who offered insight on the behind the scenes thinking of some of the teams. “And again I think the concern with Ingram is his lack of strength and how NBA-ready he’s going to be because of that”.
Should the Philadelphia 76ers be concerned by Simmons’ refusal to display his talents for the team? The native of Australia had a very productive freshman season for the Tigers, averaging 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. If not, there’s little reason for NBA teams get cold feet about drafting someone who looked like the best player in college basketball last season. Plus, he wasn’t so good that other teams should be in a rush to give up a top-five pick for him. It’s like, “Hey dude, let’s just get the shit on the court right first before we start thinking about documentaries and your shoe deal”.
The NBA Draft, which is scheduled to take place June 23rd, is expected to be a busy day for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Ben Simmons refusing workouts with National Basketball Association teams prior to draft night simply seems to be a case of playing the odds and not doing anything to hurt his status in the eyes of National Basketball Association scouts and general managers. Higher draft picks don’t just come with more prestige, they earn a higher salary, too. What do you think about Simmons’ pre-draft tactics?
