Orlando gunman, wife exchanged texts during rampage
As investigators probe the background of Omar Mateen, whose attack on Pulse nightclub in Orlando left 49 people dead, they say he bore few warning signs of radicalization.
At another point she replied telling him that she loved him, a second official told CNN.
She said her ex-husband had facets of his life that he did not share with his family, such as drinking and going to nightclubs.
Officials have said 11 victims either died at hospitals or on their way to hospitals. Salman told federal authorities on Sunday that her husband had more recently been “scouting Downtown Disney and Pulse [nightclub] for attacks”.
Law enforcement officials gather outside the Pulse nightclub, the scene of Sunday’s mass shooting Wednesday, June 15, 2016, in Orlando, Fla.
Mateen, 29, opened fire on the club using a Sig Sauer MCX semi-automatic assault-style rifle and a pistol.
They were married in Hercules, in Contra Costa County, Calif., on September 29, 2011. The couple has a 3-year-old son. A federal grand jury has convened to determine if she should face any charges.
According to Johnson, Mateen had at least five associated Facebook accounts, and on Sunday morning posted “America and Russian Federation stop bombing the Islamic state”. “Now taste the Islamic state vengeance”, he declared, condemning “the filthy ways of the west”.
Facebook officials confirmed to FoxNews.com they have received Johnson’s letter. Gilroy has called Mateen loud and profane and accused him of threatening violence. The FBI’s Hopper declined to comment on calls Mateen made during the rampage.
Investigators trying to find out what motivated nightclub killer Omar Mateen are casting a wide net. Gentili recalled asking. “He said no and hung up the phone”.
An official who was briefed on the case but insisted on anonymity to discuss a continuing investigation said authorities believe 30-year-old US-born Noor Salman knew ahead of time about the attack. But she didn’t call police.
The FBI tracked down the men, who were visiting government security officers from a Middle Eastern country.
There was no name or any purchase record to review. People can reach the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
– Now thought to have been a lone wolf, Mateen talked of accomplices, including snipers who would gun down people entering or exiting the club, some survivors said.
Spokesmen for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said the agencies don’t have any records of receiving calls from Lotus Gunworks.
A key topic for investigators is how much Mateen’s Palestinian-American wife may have known about the plot. Hopper said he had no knowledge of Mateen patronizing any gay nightclubs other than Pulse. But she also told the Federal Bureau of Investigation she once drove him to the Pulse nightclub because he wanted to scope it out, the network said.
In an email on Friday, the company said Mateen was indeed evaluated by the firm that bought Nudelman’s practice, Headquarters for Psychological Evaluation, owned by Dr. Joanne Bauling.
“(Mateen) sent him a picture of his private part, and my friend actually was attracted to him.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – The murky picture of Orlando gunman Omar Mateen grew more complex Tuesday with word that the FBI is investigating whether he had been a regular at the gay dance club he attacked and had been leading a secret life as a gay man.
The issue of changing gun laws rests “at the feet of Congress”, which is controlled in both chambers by Republicans, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.
CNN military analyst Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling said the gunman’s complex background makes the investigation challenging.
“And that’s the thing that makes this case so extremely hard”.
Mateen’s ex-wife, Sitora Yusufiy, said earlier in the week that he was mentally ill, controlling and abusive. “The young gay, lesbian and transgender individuals I met through Attitude are truly fearless to speak out and to give hope to people who are going through bad bullying right now”. Questions include whether he was radicalised by the internet or had direct contact with Islamist miltant groups and claims that he used gay dating apps to chat to men. He emphasized that Mateen had a wife and child. Videos of the show can be found on YouTube.
Psychological studies have shown that some men with repressed same-sex desires may express anti-gay views, especially if they grew up in families that opposed homosexuality. ‘Just please take me. “All my clothes was full of blood”.
Only five or six people made it out alive, he said.
