Fire breaks out at Bukit Aman police headquarters
Smoke billowing from Tower Two Bukit Aman during the height of the fire.
Police said the floors above where the fire broke out had corridor spotlights switched on, giving a notion that the fire was bigger than it seemed.
He said the fire that broke out on the 10th floor of Tower 2 which houses the Criminal Investigation Department.
He stated that the fire has successfully been put out with no casualties reported.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar informed the public via Twitter and provided updates on the situation.
“We are investigating the cause of the fire”. “Stop spreading rumours”, he said.
The fire was put out at 8.20pm.
Meanwhile, a Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the fire was extinguished at 7.47pm. “The fire department’s forensics team is still at the site”, he told reporters.
Malaysian police said only waste paper was destroyed during a fire on the 10th floor of its headquarters, not secret documents relating to any ongoing investigations.
Photos of the burning building went viral on social media as netizens link the fire to the state-owned investment arm 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) which is now under probe for alleged financial irregularities.
