The Voice singer shot and killed after concert
“(My wife) Behati (Prinsloo) and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie’s tragic death”, he began in a statement posted on his official Facebook page. Grimmie came just short of winning in 2014, when she finished third.
Christina Grimmie, 22, was signing autographs after a concert in Florida when she was attacked.
Grimmie had built a huge fan base on her YouTube account.
Mina said the suspect did not appear to have a criminal record and there was no indication he and Grimmie knew each other, adding that it appeared Loibl may have been a deranged fan.
The gunman approached her and opened fire without warning, then fatally shot himself, according to police. An investigation is ongoing. There were about 120 people in the theater at the time. He came from another city in Florida, Mina said. Christina Grimmie and the band Before You Exit were signing autographs and selling merchandise after their show ended at 10 p.m. “I’m told that the security measures in place are that people open their bags and the security people look inside those bags for weapons”. Then, “detectives were told the suspect – who is not being identified at this time – walked toward Christina and shot her”.
“I was just so confused at what was going on and like a few minutes later a group of people just run out and this one girl comes and she falls to the ground and starts to cry and scream”, she said.
Mina said investigators were going through the man’s computer, phone and other belongings to see whether they can find information about a motive. The note also emphasized that no other comment will be made. No one answered the door to the one-story house that had a rusted, metal animal trap in the yard.
Kevin Loibl was carrying two handguns, two loaded magazines and a hunting knife, when he entered The Plaza Live concert venue in Orlando.
Mina indicated the suspect planned to leave Orlando by some form of public transportation, such as plane, train or bus. The police chief wouldn’t elaborate further.
“We love you so much Grimmie”, Adam Levine, who coached Grimmie on ‘The Voice, ‘ wrote in an Instagram post Saturday morning.
“For those of you who have not heard, I had the unfortunate tragedy of witnessing all of the events that occurred last night at The Plaza Live”, Rivera wrote.
